The hazard with valves too tight is the valve may not fully close, which can overheat it if it gets bad enough (and it's sometimes too late to correct when the symptoms make themselves apparent, without major engine work). My Honda dealer has suggested having the valves of my 2003 Pilot adjusted. The vehicle has 188,000 kilometers and the engine is presently running fine with no noticeable noises. The dealer estimated that to check and adjust the valves might be as much as $700-800 Canadian.

Valve lash spec is. J35A9. Intake: 0.20-0.24 mm (0.008"-0.009") go for 0.22 mm.Two mechanics told me a new engine, or a rebuild. But this 06 pilot has 120000 miles, the lifters have been adjusted, they checked the pistons. Everything was in spec. (thank you Honda) the cam shaft has been adjusted.
